Be rid of pesky reminders in QuickBooks (Q)

You know those pop ups that occur when you open a QuickBooks company file, that sort of look like a reminder, but are really an advertisement ‘reminding’ you to buy checks or to make a monthly back up, or an invitation to learn more about Merchant Services?  These are not part of the reminders feature, and clicking the “Mark as Done” button doesn’t make them go away.

Wouldn’t you love to make those go away… and stay away?  Here’s how:

First:  Find the file in the Intuit Messages folder called General.qmd and rename it “generalqmd.old”.  Keeping the original suffix of ‘qmd’ in the filename is recommended, just in case you want to recall the proper name at some point.   The exact path to the folder will depend on your operating system, so a search might be the quickest way to find it.  For Windows 7 it is C:Program DataIntuitQuickbooks XXXXComponentsMessages (with XXXX being your version of QB).

Next:  You’re all done!  Say goodbye to those ‘reminders’ once and for all.
