Tracking sales by state without using Classes (Q)

If you are looking for a way to track Sales by State (or for that matter, by any other custom filter currently unavailable in QuickBooks), but don’t want to tie-up your ability to track using classes, here’s a quick and easy solution:  use the “Customer Type” field.

Customer Type is found on the “Additional Info” tab of the Customer Information box.   And best of all, you can easily edit the Customer Type for all customers using the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries as described in one of our earlier tips.

Next, simply run your Sales By Customer Detail Report, and modify the report by choosing Customer Type from the “Total By” dropdown box on the Display tab.
